Visiting the Glade Creek Grist Mill in West Virginia’s Babcock State Park has been on my photography bucket list for several years and I was finally blessed with the perfect window this Fall. A few days’ worth of rain after a long dry spell. Overcast skies. Virtually deserted after several hours of heavy rain to start the day. Late-morning mist to make the emerging Autumn colors pop. It was absolutely perfect… long enough to get these shots. Then, within a matter of moments, the clouds grew dark, the winds began to whip, the heavens opened up and I got absolutely, positively drenched packing up and hiking out of the riverbed. Had I swam in the creek for half an hour, I wouldn’t have been more wet by the time I got back to my car.
Was it worth it? Beyond the shadow of a doubt.
